Potty Training Tips

There are many different methods and techniques you can use. The potty training information presented here is a selection of tips that you might be able to apply regardless of which method you are using. Take advantage of our free potty training guide offered in the free 5 day email course on potty training.

  1. Potty Training InformationPotty Training Charts: - You can print our free potty training chart or design one of your own. The idea is simple, every time your child successfully uses the potty you stick a star on the chart… you can make it interesting by offering prizes or rewards at certain milestones… a full day of successful potty use, or a 3 days.
  2. Training Pants: Highly recommended absorbent pants. Often come in a variety of colors with images and drawings. To encourage the child you should let the child choose the model / color they prefer
  3. Coloring the water: - A few drops of blue food dye in the toilet water or in the potty (or even a ‘blue flush’ disinfectant tablet in the cistern) will make the water turn green when the child pees. This method can motivate some children.
  4. Vibrating Watch: - There are some models of watches that you put on your child and they can be set to vibrate every hour or half hour. This serves as a reminder to the child (and the parent) that it is time to go to the potty – Most kids find this highly amusing.
  5. Dolls – An anatomically correct doll that drinks water and wets itself can be used to make potty training good fun. The doll manages to use the potty and we all clap and make fuss of the doll. The child will try to emulate so the same fuss is made of them. (this is the basic idea behind the Dr Phil technique)
  6. Musical Potty Chair. There are some potties on the market that when they are used start plying music. This can make the child really want to go in the potty and make the music sound
  7. Potty Stories: - There are countless books and videos available which are ‘potty’ based stories aimed at educating and introducing the concept of the potty to the child.

The free potty training chart and free potty training guide are just part of the potty training information we are pleased to offer you.
